Krone Rosé Cuvée Brut 2016 was recently popped in honour of Margot Molyneux’s inaugural store launch, we catch up with Margot and ask her some questions.
“I began Margot Molyneux in 2011 after I had completed my studies at Design Academy of Fashion in Cape Town,” says Margot of the eponymous retail brand. “I’m married and although I speak often of my fictitious cat, I have neither a cat nor kids. I have a wonderful team of women around me, at our studio and store, together we create seasonal collections of easy to wear, locally made women’s clothing.”
What does creativity mean to you?
To me, creativity is a form of self-expression. We are all able to do it, it just depends how much emphasis we put onto it in our daily lives. I am often told my others, “I am not a creative person”, but I don’t believe that can be true. There are all sorts of ways to express our own ideas, whether it’s in the meals we cook in the evenings or the way we choose to dress ourselves each morning.
Can you tell us about the launch and why Krone Rosé Cuvée Brut 2016 was a good fit?
In November last year we launched our first store in Roeland Street Cape Town. We felt that Krone Rosé Cuvée Brut 2016 was the perfect fit for the event as not only does its subtle pink colour complement our store interior beautifully, but as we had a morning launch, it was delicious and easy to enjoy while our customers looked around the space.

What inspires you day to day?
Lately, I have found an increasing need to focus and seek out treasures in the small things around me. I feel like we often live as though there are better things afar, but perhaps that is the sentiment the world over. I want to focus on our environment, the inspiring people around me and the interesting projects right here in South Africa.
In the same line: do you have any advice for people wanting to get into a creative pursuit like fashion?
Fashion is about many things, other than creativity. It is primarily about understanding the market of people around you and having an idea of what those people need. Once you have a grasp of this, you can create something unique.
Can you tell us about your processes and some of the highlights?
Our team consists of seven women, each of whom having play a part in the design and make up of our collections. We have a studio, where we design and produce each of our items. We love to play around with colours, working with colour professionals to get our own hues made up for each capsule. Over the past year we have also partnered with a local swimwear manufacturer to make up our swimwear pieces as well as a knitting house, where we designed our Cotton and Merino Wool jerseys for our Mara A\W Collection.
What do we have to look forward to?
We are about to launch our Spring Collection, at the end of September, with the Summer Collection following on later this year. For spring, we have put together a beautiful combination of colours for our palette, consisting of a rich green, peach, soft buttery yellow and milky white. We have also designed a unique set of stripes to create a relaxed feel, as we ease into summer.
